What is the name of Myrtle Wilson's husband?

The story behind the answer

Myrtle Wilson’s husband is George Wilson in The Great Gatsby. George is a mechanic who owns and operates a garage in the Valley of Ashes, the bleak industrial area between West Egg and New York City. His marriage to Myrtle is troubled, and she regards him as weak, poor, and unable to offer the glamorous life she wants.

Myrtle is having an affair with Tom Buchanan, Daisy’s wealthy and married husband. Tom uses his money and social position to dominate both Myrtle and George, while George remains largely trapped by his economic circumstances. Their garage becomes an important setting because it lies along the road connecting the Eggs with Manhattan.

George’s role becomes central near the novel’s tragic climax. Myrtle runs toward a car driven by Daisy Buchanan and is killed. Tom tells George that Gatsby owns the vehicle, leading George to believe Gatsby was Myrtle’s lover and the driver responsible for her death. George then shoots Gatsby in his swimming pool before killing himself. Readers sometimes confuse George with Tom because Tom is Myrtle’s lover, but George is her husband.
