Meta's smart-glasses collaboration with Ray-Ban released in 2023 is called Ray-Ban Meta.
Ray-Ban Meta is a line of smartglasses developed by Meta Platforms in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, Ray-Ban's parent company. Meta announced the glasses on September 27, 2023, as the successor to the earlier Ray-Ban Stories glasses. The product combines Ray-Ban styling with technology intended for hands-free photography, audio, calls, livestreaming, and voice-based assistance.
The glasses contain two cameras, open-ear speakers, microphones, and a touchpad built into the frame. Unlike some competing smart-glasses concepts, Ray-Ban Meta does not include a heads-up display or augmented-reality screen in the lenses. That distinction makes them closer to camera-and-audio wearables than to full visual AR headsets.
The name can be confused with Bose Frames, Snap Spectacles, or Google Glass, but those are separate products from different companies. Ray-Ban Meta also became associated with Meta AI features, which expanded the glasses beyond their original camera, music, and calling functions. Privacy discussions have focused on recording indicators and the possibility of capturing people in public.
