What is the name of Mater’s spy identity in Pixar’s Cars 2?

Mater’s spy identity in Pixar’s Cars 2 is Agent Mater.

Mater is an ordinary-looking tow truck from Radiator Springs, but Cars 2 places him at the center of an international espionage story. After being mistaken for an American agent, he is recruited into a mission involving Finn McMissile, Holley Shiftwell, and a conspiracy connected to the World Grand Prix.

The designation “Agent Mater” reflects the film’s playful transformation of a rural tow truck into a secret operative. Mater’s lack of formal spy training creates much of the comedy, while his unusual observations help uncover information that trained agents overlook.

Lightning McQueen remains a race competitor rather than Mater’s spy identity. Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell are genuine intelligence agents, and Mater works alongside them. The character is still commonly called Tow Mater in the wider franchise.
