What is the name of Le Corbusier's famous house in Poissy, France?

The story behind the answer

The name of Le Corbusier's famous house in Poissy, France, is Villa Savoye.

Designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for Pierre and Eugénie Savoye, the villa was built between 1928 and 1931 as a country retreat outside Paris. Its smooth white form, horizontal windows and elevated structure made it an icon of modernist architecture.

Villa Savoye is especially important because it demonstrates Le Corbusier's Five Points of a New Architecture: pilotis, a roof garden, a free plan, a free façade and ribbon windows. The house is raised above the ground, allowing cars and pedestrians to pass beneath it, while a ramp creates a continuous architectural promenade through the building.

A common mix-up is confusing Villa Savoye with Villa La Roche, another celebrated Le Corbusier house in Paris. Villa Stein, also designed by Le Corbusier, is a separate residence in Garches. Villa Savoye became a French state property in 1958 and was included in UNESCO's Le Corbusier World Heritage ensemble in 2016.
