The Lord of the Rings
Answer
The Lord of the Rings
J.R.R. Tolkien’s three-volume epic fantasy novel is The Lord of the Rings.
The story follows the hobbit Frodo Baggins and a fellowship attempting to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom. Its principal conflict concerns the Dark Lord Sauron, who created the Ring as a means of extending his power over the other Rings of Power.
Although commonly described as a trilogy, The Lord of the Rings is one continuous novel divided into six internal books plus appendices. Publishers released it in three physical volumes because of postwar paper shortages and production costs. The volumes are The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.
The work was published between 1954 and 1955. It grew out of Tolkien’s earlier children’s book The Hobbit, but its tone, scale, history, and invented languages are considerably broader. The novel became one of the most influential works of modern fantasy.
