What is the name of Joan Jett's backing group?

The name of Joan Jett's backing group is The Blackhearts. Joan Jett formed the band after The Runaways broke up and after beginning her solo career. The group became closely identified with her name, usually appearing as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

The band helped turn Jett's recordings and live performances into a durable rock career. Their best-known songs include "I Love Rock 'n Roll," "Bad Reputation," "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." "I Love Rock 'n Roll" became a major hit in 1982.

A common mix-up is confusing The Blackhearts with The Runaways. The Runaways were Jett's earlier all-female band, formed in the 1970s, while The Blackhearts were her later backing band. Jett also founded Blackheart Records, whose name is related to the band but is not the group's name.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, recognizing their influence on rock music and women performers.
