What is the name of Google's official IDE for Android development?
Answer
Android Studio
Answer
Android Studio
Google's official IDE for Android development is Android Studio.
Android Studio is Google's purpose-built integrated development environment for creating Android applications. It combines a source-code editor based on the IntelliJ platform with the Android SDK, Gradle build system, debugging tools, testing support, layout tools, and an Android Emulator. Developers can use it to write, compile, run, test, and package apps for phones, tablets, TVs, cars, and other Android devices.
Google announced Android Studio at Google I/O on May 16, 2013. Version 0.1 began as an early-access preview, the beta release arrived in 2014, and the first stable version, 1.0, was released in December 2014. It replaced the older Eclipse workflow that used Google's Android Development Tools plug-in; Google ended official support for Eclipse ADT at the end of 2015.
A common mix-up is IntelliJ IDEA. Android Studio uses IntelliJ technology and shares much of its interface, but Android Studio is the official Android-specific product. Kotlin became Google's preferred Android language in 2019, although Java and C++ remain supported.
