What is the name of Google's coding competition?

The story behind the answer

Google’s coding competition was called Google Code Jam. It was an international programming contest in which participants solved algorithmic problems under time limits, using the programming language and development environment of their choice.

Code Jam began in 2003 and originally helped Google identify strong engineering talent. From 2003 to 2007, the contest ran on Topcoder; from 2008 onward, Google operated its own competition infrastructure. The contest included qualification and elimination rounds leading to a final round for the strongest competitors.

Google also ran a related Distributed Code Jam from 2015 to 2018, focused specifically on distributed algorithms. Code Jam was discontinued in 2023, along with Google’s Hash Code and Kick Start competitions. Its name is sometimes confused with Google Code-in, which was a separate program centered on open-source tasks for pre-university students.
