What is the name of George Lucas's ranch in California?

The story behind the answer

George Lucas’s ranch in California is called Skywalker Ranch. It is a secluded film-production property near Nicasio in Marin County, north of San Francisco, and serves as a creative workplace rather than a conventional public ranch.

Lucas purchased the first parcel in 1978, when it was known as Bulltail Ranch. He and Lucasfilm later assembled adjoining land, creating a property of more than 4,700 acres. Only a small portion has been developed, allowing the site to retain much of its rural character and seclusion.

The ranch contains offices, screening rooms, gardens, a theater and specialized sound facilities. Skywalker Sound moved there in 1987 and became one of the property’s best-known operations. That name causes a frequent mix-up: Skywalker Sound is the sound-production facility, while Skywalker Ranch is the larger California property. Lucasfilm’s main headquarters are elsewhere, at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco.
