Eric Clapton’s first solo album was titled Eric Clapton. It was released in August 1970, after Clapton had already established himself through influential groups including the Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, and Blind Faith.

The album was recorded between November 1969 and March 1970 at Olympic Studios in London, Village Recorders in Los Angeles, and Island Studios in London. Delaney Bramlett produced the sessions and helped shape the record’s relaxed blend of blues, rock, and gospel-influenced music.

Several musicians associated with Delaney & Bonnie’s band participated, including players who would later become part of Derek and the Dominos. The album also contains “Let It Rain,” an early Clapton recording that had previously existed in a different form under the title “She Rides.”
