Elrond’s daughter in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth legendarium is Arwen.
Arwen is known as Arwen Undómiel, meaning “Evenstar” in Tolkien’s fictional languages. She lives in Rivendell with her father Elrond and is portrayed as one of the greatest beauties of the Elves.
Arwen loves Aragorn, the heir of Isildur, and chooses a mortal fate so that she can marry him. Their relationship parallels the earlier tale of Beren and Lúthien, one of Tolkien’s most important stories of love across the divide between Elves and Men.
Arwen is therefore more than a supporting character in the history of Middle-earth. Her decision affects the fate of Elrond’s family and connects the events of The Lord of the Rings to the much older legends of the First Age.
