What is the name of Denmark’s oldest surviving amusement park?
Answer
Dyrehavsbakken
Answer
Dyrehavsbakken
Dyrehavsbakken is Denmark’s oldest surviving amusement park. Commonly called Bakken, it traces its history to 1583, when a natural spring north of Copenhagen attracted visitors seeking its water.
Entertainers, vendors, and performers followed the visitors, gradually turning the spring site into a fairground. The park later developed rides, games, restaurants, and stage entertainment while retaining a wooded setting in the Jægersborg Dyrehave area.
Bakken is often confused with Tivoli Gardens, which opened in central Copenhagen in 1843 and is internationally more famous. Bakken predates Tivoli by 260 years and has no single entrance fee for entering the grounds, although its individual attractions require payment or ride tickets.
