Bilbo Baggins’s sword in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit is called Sting.
Bilbo finds the blade in a troll hoard alongside two larger swords, Glamdring and Orcrist. The swords had originally belonged to the Elven king Turgon and the Goblin-cleaver Thorin Oakenshield’s sword, respectively, before reaching the troll cave.
Sting is small enough for a hobbit to use effectively. Its blade also glows blue when Orcs or Goblins are nearby, giving Bilbo an important warning during the journey and later in the tunnels beneath the Misty Mountains.
Readers sometimes confuse Sting with Andúril, the sword carried by Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings. Andúril is reforged from Narsil, whereas Sting remains Bilbo’s distinctive short sword and later becomes associated with Frodo.
