Renaissance is Beyoncé’s 2022 album that begins her reported three-act project.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance was her seventh studio album and her first solo studio album since Lemonade in 2016. Beyoncé described it as the first act of a broader project, later followed by Cowboy Carter in 2024.
The album draws heavily on dance music, house, disco, funk, and ballroom traditions. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008.
Renaissance received nine Grammy nominations and won four awards at the 2023 ceremony, including Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. Its release reinforced Beyoncé’s practice of connecting mainstream pop with influential Black and queer musical traditions.
