Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album about love, betrayal, and healing is Lemonade.
Lemonade was released on April 23, 2016, after a premiere on HBO. It combines a 12-track audio album with a one-hour film structured around poetic chapters such as “Intuition,” “Anger,” “Apathy,” and “Redemption.”
The project draws on Black history, African American cultural traditions, family relationships, and emotional recovery. Its songs include “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “Daddy Lessons,” each contributing to the album’s larger narrative.
Lemonade received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2017 Grammy Awards. It is distinct from Black Is King, a 2020 visual album connected to The Lion King: The Gift.
