Bella Swan’s hometown in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight is Forks. Bella moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, to the small, rainy town of Forks, Washington, to live with her father, Charlie Swan.
Forks becomes the central human setting of the Twilight series. Its frequent rain and cloud cover help explain why Edward Cullen and his vampire family can spend time outdoors without revealing their sparkling appearance in direct sunlight. The real Forks is located on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula and became strongly associated with the books and films.
Twilight was published in 2005 and begins Bella’s relationship with Edward Cullen, a vampire who has lived for more than a century. The story later expands to include the neighboring Quileute community and the fictional werewolf character Jacob Black. Port Angeles also appears in the novel, but it is a nearby location rather than Bella’s home.
