What is the name of B.B. King's guitar?

The story behind the answer

B.B. King named his guitar Lucille.

More precisely, Lucille was the name King gave to the succession of guitars he played throughout his career, rather than to just one permanent instrument. He was especially associated with black Gibson semi-hollow guitars based on the ES-335 and ES-355 designs.

The name came from a 1949 nightclub fire in Twist, Arkansas. A barrel of burning kerosene used to heat the dance hall was knocked over during a fight. King escaped, then ran back inside to retrieve his roughly $30 Gibson guitar. He later learned that the fight had begun over a woman named Lucille, so he gave the guitar that name as a warning to himself never again to risk his life for a guitar or fight over a woman.

Gibson introduced the B.B. King Lucille signature model in 1980. At King’s request, it lacked the usual f-holes found on many hollow and semi-hollow guitars, helping reduce feedback at high volume. King also recorded songs titled “Lucille” and “My Lucille.”
