Audi’s digital instrument cluster is called the Audi virtual cockpit.

The Audi virtual cockpit replaces traditional analog gauges with a configurable digital display behind the steering wheel. It can show core driving information such as speed and engine speed, while also presenting navigation maps, media details, telephone information and selected driver-assistance data in the driver’s line of sight.

Audi revealed the technology in 2014, and it reached production vehicles as the company expanded digital displays across its model range. Later versions were marketed as the Audi virtual cockpit plus, typically offering a larger or higher-resolution screen and additional display layouts. Depending on the vehicle and equipment level, drivers can switch between classic-looking gauges, navigation-focused views and sportier presentations.

The system is easy to confuse with MMI. MMI is Audi’s broader infotainment and control interface, usually centered on a separate dashboard screen; the virtual cockpit is the driver-facing instrument cluster. Audi Connect, meanwhile, refers to connected services, and Audi drive select controls vehicle behavior such as steering, throttle and suspension settings where fitted.

Not every digital Audi cluster has identical features. Screen size, graphics and available functions vary by model, generation and optional equipment.
