What is the name of Apple's smart speaker?

Apple’s smart speaker is called HomePod. The HomePod combines wireless music playback, voice control through Siri, and smart-home features in a speaker designed to work closely with Apple devices and services.

Apple announced the first-generation HomePod at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2017. Although it was initially planned for release that year, Apple delayed it before beginning orders in January 2018 and shipping the speaker on February 9, 2018. It was built around high-quality audio, beamforming, and multiple speakers and microphones.

The original HomePod was discontinued in 2021, but Apple revived the full-size model with a second-generation HomePod in 2023. Apple also sells the smaller and less expensive HomePod mini, introduced in 2020. Both products use Siri and can act as hubs for compatible HomeKit smart-home accessories.

HomePod is often confused with Amazon Echo or Google Nest because all are smart speakers, but those are competing product families from different companies.
