Mary Anne is Apollo’s wife and later widow in the Rocky and Creed stories. She appears in the earlier films as part of Apollo’s family life, while Apollo is portrayed as Rocky Balboa’s charismatic rival and eventually his friend and trainer. After Apollo dies during his fight with Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Mary Anne becomes responsible for preserving his family’s legacy.

In Creed, it is revealed that Apollo had an affair and fathered Adonis “Donnie” Johnson. After Donnie’s biological mother dies, Mary Anne adopts him in 1998.
