What is the name of Anakin Skywalker's mother?
Answer
Shmi Skywalker
Answer
Shmi Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker’s mother is Shmi Skywalker. She is introduced in The Phantom Menace as Anakin’s enslaved mother on Tatooine, where they live and work under the control of the junk dealer Watto.
Shmi tells Qui-Gon Jinn that Anakin has no father and that she became pregnant with him mysteriously. This detail became one of the saga’s major unanswered questions until later films connected Anakin’s birth to the Force. Qui-Gon manages to win Anakin’s freedom through a podrace wager, but Shmi remains behind on Tatooine.
After Watto sells her to the moisture farmer Cliegg Lars, Shmi marries Cliegg and becomes part of the Lars family. Tusken Raiders later capture her, and Anakin senses her suffering through the Force. He finds her dying in his arms, an experience that deeply contributes to his fear of loss and his eventual fall toward the dark side. Shmi is also Luke and Leia’s paternal grandmother.
