What is the maximum rank in Splatoon 2's ranked mode?

The maximum rank in Splatoon 2's ranked mode is X Rank. It sits above the S+ ranks and represents the game's highest competitive rank tier.

X Rank was added in the version 3.0 update in April 2018. Players who had reached S+10 were automatically registered for X Rank when the update arrived. Instead of using the ordinary rank meter, X Rank matches use an X Power rating that measures competitive performance. That power is tracked separately across the game's Ranked Battle modes, including Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker, and Clam Blitz.

A common mix-up is treating S+ as the final rank because it was the highest tier before the update. X Rank is also not a single permanent global position: players have separate X Power values for different modes, and Nintendo published monthly leaderboards for the strongest competitors. A player could therefore reach X Rank in one mode while remaining at S+ in another.
