What is the maximum diving depth of the Rinspeed sQuba?
Answer
10 meters
Answer
10 meters
The maximum diving depth of the Rinspeed sQuba is 10 meters.
Rinspeed developed the sQuba as a functioning concept car, unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. Its design began with a Lotus Elise chassis and drew inspiration from the underwater Lotus Esprit in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.
Unlike a conventional submarine, the sQuba has an open cockpit. It can flood its interior while occupants breathe through scuba-style regulators. Twin electric propellers provide forward motion underwater, while water jets at the front help with steering and lift. The car travels at about 3 km/h underwater and about 6 km/h on the surface.
The 10-meter figure describes the prototype’s maximum submersion depth, not a routine recreational diving recommendation. A common mix-up is assuming that the sQuba is a production vehicle: it remained a one-off concept, with no established mass-production program.
