The maximum character limit for a Reddit post title is 300 characters.
This limit applies to the title field that introduces a link, image, video, poll, or text post. The title is separate from the post body, where Reddit allows substantially more text. A title can therefore be concise while the body supplies context, explanations, or supporting details.
Individual subreddits may impose stricter rules, including minimum or maximum title lengths, required wording, or formatting conventions. Those community rules can make it seem as though Reddit’s overall limit is lower, but the site-wide maximum is 300 characters.
The title limit is also distinct from Reddit’s comment and post-body limits, which have changed over time and are much larger. A common mix-up is the number 140, associated with Twitter’s former tweet limit; it is not Reddit’s title cap. Reddit titles also cannot usually be edited after submission, so checking the wording before posting matters.
