What is the killer's nickname in "Saw"?

The story behind the answer

The killer's nickname in Saw is Jigsaw. The name refers to John Kramer, the central antagonist of the franchise, who abducts people he believes have undervalued their lives and places them in elaborate survival tests.

Jigsaw does not usually kill victims directly in the manner of a conventional slasher villain. Instead, he designs traps and gives his targets a difficult choice, often claiming that survival will teach them to appreciate life. The franchise's signature puppet, Billy, delivers instructions and warnings, but Billy is not the killer himself.

Another common mix-up is confusing Jigsaw with one of his apprentices. Amanda Young and Mark Hoffman both carry out parts of Jigsaw's work, and later films complicate the identity of the killer behind individual traps. Nevertheless, the original nickname belongs to John Kramer. The character first appeared in the 2004 film Saw, played by Tobin Bell.
