The final day of a professional sumo tournament is called senshuraku. The term is used for the closing day of each official basho, when the remaining championship races are decided.
A standard professional tournament lasts 15 days, and wrestlers in the top divisions usually compete once per day. Senshuraku therefore often features decisive bouts involving wrestlers with the best records, although a playoff may be needed if two or more wrestlers finish tied.
The opening day is called shonichi, while the middle day is commonly called nakabi. These terms describe different points in the tournament calendar and should not be confused. The word senshuraku is also used more broadly in Japanese performing arts for a final performance.
