What is the Hong Kong terminus of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link?

The story behind the answer

The Hong Kong terminus of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link is Hong Kong West Kowloon.

Hong Kong West Kowloon is the sole station on the Hong Kong section of the high-speed railway. From there, trains travel north through mainland stations including Futian, Shenzhen North, and Humen before reaching Guangzhou South and the wider Chinese high-speed network.

The Hong Kong section is largely underground and opened to passengers on 23 September 2018. Its dedicated route connects Kowloon with Shenzhen and Guangzhou, sharply reducing journey times compared with older cross-border rail services.

The station’s name can cause confusion because Kowloon, Hung Hom, and Austin are all associated with Hong Kong rail travel. Hung Hom is the terminus for conventional cross-border and intercity rail services, while Kowloon and Austin are nearby MTR stations. They are not the Express Rail Link’s terminus.
