What is the highest point in Nauru?
Answer
Command Ridge
Answer
Command Ridge
The highest point in Nauru is Command Ridge.
Command Ridge rises to about 65 metres above sea level, making it a very modest high point by global standards. It is located near the boundary of Nauru’s Aiwo and Buada districts, in the island’s central plateau area.
The ridge also preserves a reminder of Nauru’s wartime history. During World War II, Japanese forces occupied the island, and Command Ridge held a communications bunker. Rusting artillery and other military remains can still be found there, giving the otherwise low limestone island an unusually visible historical landmark.
A common mix-up is to treat Nauru’s highest point as a conventional mountain. Nauru is a raised coral island, heavily altered by phosphate mining, so “ridge” or “hill” is more geographically accurate than “mountain.”
