What is the highest mountain in Lebanon?
Answer
Qurnat as Sawda
Answer
Qurnat as Sawda
Qurnat as Sawda is the highest mountain in Lebanon.
Qurnat as Sawda rises to about 3,088 metres in the Lebanon Mountains of northern Lebanon. Its name is commonly translated as “Black Peak,” referring to the mountain’s appearance and local naming traditions.
The summit belongs to the Lebanon Mountain range, which runs roughly parallel to Lebanon’s Mediterranean coast. The range is separated from the Anti-Lebanon Mountains by the Beqaa Valley, a major agricultural and geographic corridor.
The peak receives winter snow and is part of a high mountain environment that differs sharply from Lebanon’s warmer coastal plain. Mount Hermon is sometimes mistakenly given as Lebanon’s highest mountain, but its summit lies in the Anti-Lebanon range outside Lebanon’s territory, on the border region between Syria and Lebanon.
