What is the highest mountain in Canada, rising to 5,959 metres in Yukon?
Answer
Mount Logan
Answer
Mount Logan
Mount Logan is Canada’s highest mountain, reaching 5,959 metres in Yukon.
The mountain is part of the Saint Elias Mountains in southwestern Yukon, near the Alaska border. It has an unusually large mass and a broad summit plateau containing multiple named summits. Mount Logan is also notable for having one of the world’s largest circumferences among non-volcanic mountains.
The peak was named in 1890 for Sir William Edmond Logan, founder of the Geological Survey of Canada. A team led by Albert H. MacCarthy made the first ascent in 1925. Mount Logan is sometimes confused with Mount Saint Elias, which is higher but lies primarily in Alaska and has its summit on the international boundary. Nearby Mount Fairweather is also taller than many Canadian peaks, but it is not Canada’s highest mountain.
