What is the full name of the Assassin's Creed protagonist who leads the first game?

The story behind the answer

The protagonist of the first Assassin's Creed game is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Altaïr is a Syrian Assassin active during the Third Crusade, around the year 1191. At the start of the game, he is a highly ranked Assassin whose reckless behavior causes him to lose his rank and equipment. His mentor, Al Mualim, sends him on missions to eliminate targets in cities including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus.

The name Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is Arabic in form and is commonly translated as “Altaïr, son of nobody.” The character's story is connected to the Apple of Eden, a powerful Isu artifact that drives much of the series' early conflict.

Altaïr is distinct from later heroes such as Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway. He also appears in later games and the novel Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade, which expands his life beyond the first game's main campaign.
