Answer
Petri Hawkins Byrd
Answer
Petri Hawkins Byrd
The full name of Judge Judy’s bailiff, Byrd, is Petri Hawkins-Byrd.
He is an American television personality and former New York State court officer. Before joining television, he worked in New York’s court system and encountered Judith Sheindlin while she was supervising Manhattan Family Court. When Sheindlin developed Judge Judy, Byrd wrote to her and famously offered his services as bailiff.
Hawkins-Byrd served as the bailiff throughout Judge Judy’s 25-season run, from 1996 to 2021. His duties included calling cases, swearing in litigants, handling courtroom materials, directing the audience and escorting participants from the set. His familiar announcement of “Order!” became part of the show’s identity.
His birth name is Petri Adonis Byrd. He added “Hawkins,” his late mother’s maiden name, when he joined Judge Judy. That detail sometimes causes confusion over whether “Petri Hawkins-Byrd” is a professional name or a birth name. In 2023, he returned to courtroom television as bailiff on Sheindlin’s Tribunal Justice.
