What is the field color of Palau's national flag?
Answer
Light blue
Answer
Light blue
The field color of Palau's national flag is light blue. A large golden-yellow disk sits slightly left of center on that background, creating one of the Pacific's most recognizable flag designs.
Palau adopted the flag on 1 January 1981, when it separated from the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. The light-blue field represents the Pacific Ocean and also symbolizes Palau's transition from foreign administration to self-government.
The disk is a full moon rather than a sun. Palauan tradition associates the full moon with favorable times for fishing, planting, harvesting, celebrations, tree-felling, and building traditional canoes. It also represents peace, love, and tranquility.
People sometimes confuse Palau's flag with the flag of Japan because both feature a disk, or with Bangladesh because both use an off-center disk. The distinction is important: Palau's disk is yellow, its field is light blue, and the symbol represents the moon.
