Viktor Navorski is from the fictional country of Krakozhia in Steven Spielberg’s 2004 film The Terminal.
Played by Tom Hanks, Viktor arrives at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport just as a political upheaval invalidates his passport and leaves him unable to enter the United States or return home. He must remain inside the airport terminal while officials try to resolve his status.
Krakozhia is an invented Eastern European country created for the film. The fictional setting allows the story to focus on bureaucracy, language barriers, and the experience of being trapped between legal systems without tying the plot to one specific real nation.
The film was partly inspired by the story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri, an Iranian refugee who lived for years in Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport. However, Viktor’s character, circumstances, and fictional homeland are distinct from Nasseri’s real life.
