What is the Eid al-Fitr prayer called in Arabic?

The story behind the answer

The Eid al-Fitr prayer is called Salat al-Eid in Arabic.

The same term is used for the special prayer performed on both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It is generally held in an open prayer ground or a large mosque after sunrise, once the time for the prayer has begun.

The prayer is followed by a khutbah, or sermon. Its form differs from the five obligatory daily prayers because it includes additional takbirs, expressions declaring God’s greatness. Details such as the number and placement of extra takbirs vary among Islamic legal schools.

The Eid prayer is a major communal feature of the festivals. It should not be confused with the ordinary Friday congregational prayer, Jumu'ah, which has a different place in the weekly religious calendar.
