What is the currency of Saudi Arabia?
Answer
Saudi riyal
Answer
Saudi riyal
The currency of Saudi Arabia is the Saudi riyal.
The Saudi riyal, abbreviated SAR, is issued by the Saudi Central Bank and is divided into 100 halalas. Riyal banknotes commonly appear in denominations from 5 to 500 riyals, while coins include halala denominations and 1- and 2-riyal pieces.
Saudi Arabia has maintained a fixed exchange-rate relationship with the United States dollar since 1986. The official rate is 3.75 Saudi riyals to 1 U.S. dollar, a policy that supports predictable prices for imports and international trade.
The word riyal is related to the Spanish real and became widely used across the Middle East. Saudi Arabia's currency replaced several monies used in the region, including the Hejaz riyal. A frequent mistake is selecting the Omani rial or Qatari riyal: those names are similar, but they are separate national currencies. The UAE uses the dirham.
