Answer
Treating Burns
The clear gel extracted from aloe vera leaves is used medically for treating burns.
Aloe vera gel comes from the fleshy inner portion of the plant’s leaves. It contains mostly water along with polysaccharides, amino acids, vitamins, and other compounds. Applied to minor burns, especially sunburn, the cool gel can soothe irritation and help keep the affected skin hydrated while it heals.
Aloe should not be confused with aloe latex, the yellowish substance found beneath the leaf skin. Aloe latex contains compounds that act as strong laxatives and is not the same product as the soothing inner gel. People also sometimes claim aloe can cure serious burns, but deep, extensive, chemical, or electrical burns require professional medical care. For a minor burn, the wound should first be cooled with clean running water; aloe may then be used as a soothing topical treatment.
