What is the capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia?
Answer
Halifax
Answer
Halifax
The capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia is Halifax. More precisely, Halifax is the historic urban core and administrative center of the Halifax Regional Municipality, which serves as Nova Scotia’s provincial capital.
Halifax was founded in 1749 by the British under General Edward Cornwallis and named for George Montagu-Dunk, the Earl of Halifax. Its deep, ice-free harbor made it a strategic naval base and a major center for Atlantic trade, immigration, and defense. The city’s elevated Citadel Hill helped protect the harbor and remains one of its best-known landmarks.
Today, Halifax is the most populous municipality in Nova Scotia and in Atlantic Canada. In 1996, the former municipalities of Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and Halifax County were amalgamated into the Halifax Regional Municipality. A common distractor is Charlottetown, which is the capital of neighboring Prince Edward Island; Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick.
