What is the capital of Sint Maarten?
Answer
Philipsburg
Answer
Philipsburg
The capital of Sint Maarten is Philipsburg.
Philipsburg is the main town and capital of Sint Maarten, the Dutch-speaking southern part of Saint Martin island. It lies on the southern coast between Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond, a location that helped it develop as a port and trading center.
The town is associated with John Philips, a Scottish settler and trader who helped establish it. Its historic defenses include Fort Amsterdam and Fort Willem, built during the period when European powers competed for control of Caribbean trade routes.
Philipsburg is also Sint Maarten’s main tourism hub. Cruise ships dock at its deep-water port, while shops, restaurants, historic buildings, and beaches draw visitors. A frequent mix-up is treating Saint Martin as one political territory: the island is divided between Dutch Sint Maarten and French Saint-Martin, whose main town is Marigot.
