What is the capital of Saskatchewan?

The story behind the answer

What is the capital of Saskatchewan? Regina is the capital city of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.

Regina is in southern Saskatchewan and houses the provincial legislature, ministries, and other government institutions. The Saskatchewan Legislative Building, completed in 1912, stands beside Wascana Lake in Wascana Centre, one of the city’s major civic and recreational areas.

The settlement was established in 1882 during the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway and was named Regina, Latin for “queen,” in honour of Queen Victoria. That origin explains Regina’s long-standing nickname, the “Queen City.” Saskatchewan entered Confederation as a province in 1905, with Regina as its capital.

Saskatoon is the province's largest city and is therefore the usual source of confusion. Prince Albert and Moose Jaw are important Saskatchewan communities, but neither is the provincial capital.
