What is the Bitcoin block reward after the 2024 halving?

The story behind the answer

After the 2024 Bitcoin halving, the block reward became 3.125 BTC.

Bitcoin’s protocol cuts the subsidy paid to miners in half every 210,000 blocks. The fourth halving occurred at block 840,000 on April 20, 2024, reducing the reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC for each successfully mined block.

The subsidy is newly created bitcoin, separate from transaction fees that miners may also collect. Halvings therefore slow the rate at which new coins enter circulation while leaving the maximum supply near 21 million BTC unchanged.

A frequent mistake is choosing 1.5625 BTC, which is the expected reward after the next halving, not the 2024 event. Earlier rewards were 50 BTC at launch, 25 BTC after the 2012 halving, 12.5 BTC after 2016, and 6.25 BTC after 2020.
