Answer
23,000 square miles
Lake Huron has an approximate surface area of 23,000 square miles (59,600 square kilometres).
That measurement includes the lake’s many bays and islands. Lake Huron is the second-largest Great Lake by surface area, after Lake Superior, and it is shared by Ontario, Canada, and Michigan, United States. Its shoreline is highly irregular, especially around Georgian Bay and the North Channel.
Lake Huron is linked hydrologically with Lake Michigan through the Straits of Mackinac. Because the two lakes have essentially the same water level, geographers and limnologists sometimes describe them as one connected lake system, although they retain separate names and identities.
Surface area should not be confused with volume. Lake Huron spreads widely but is shallower on average than Lake Superior. Its largest island is Manitoulin Island, which lies in the northern part of the lake.
