What is Saturn’s moon Pandora known for shepherding?

The story behind the answer

Saturn’s moon Pandora is known for helping shepherd Saturn’s narrow F ring.

Pandora is a small outer moon of Saturn that travels near the F ring. Together with the moon Prometheus, it helps gravitationally shape and confine the ring’s material. Because the two moons influence particles from opposite sides, they are often described as shepherd satellites.

Voyager 1 photographed Pandora during its 1980 encounter with Saturn. The moon was discovered in images from that mission and later received a name drawn from Greek mythology. Its irregular, heavily cratered appearance reflects the small moon’s limited ability to reshape itself through gravity.

Pandora does not orbit inside the broad, bright A or B rings. Its relationship is specifically with the thin and structurally complex F ring, which contains braided strands, kinks, and clumps. Prometheus is the better-known inner shepherd, while Pandora contributes from the outer side.
