What is Rivendell called in Sindarin in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium?

The story behind the answer

Rivendell is called Imladris in Sindarin in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium.

Imladris means “Rivendell” in the Common Speech, with the name referring to a deep valley or cleft in the landscape. The refuge was founded by Elrond in the Second Age after the destruction of Eregion. Its hidden position near the eastern foothills of the Misty Mountains helped protect Elves and other enemies of Sauron.

In The Hobbit, Bilbo and the Dwarves stay with Elrond before crossing the Misty Mountains. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo recovers there after being wounded by a Morgul blade, and the Council of Elrond debates what should be done with the One Ring.

Imladris is not the same place as Lothlórien, the forest realm ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn. Mithlond, or the Grey Havens, is another Elvish settlement located far to the west.
