What is Pokémon’s official mascot Pokémon?

The story behind the answer

Pikachu is Pokémon’s official mascot Pokémon.

Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon resembling a small yellow mouse, with pointed ears, red cheek pouches, and a lightning-bolt-shaped tail. Its design was created by Atsuko Nishida, and it became the most recognizable character associated with the franchise.

Pikachu’s popularity expanded dramatically after it became Ash Ketchum’s partner in the Pokémon anime. The character’s expressive personality, refusal to remain in a Poké Ball, and close friendship with Ash made Pikachu accessible even to viewers who had never played the games.

Pikachu is number 025 in the National Pokédex, so it is not the first entry. It is also different from Pichu and Raichu: Pichu is Pikachu’s baby-stage predecessor, while Raichu is its evolutionary relative. These distinctions explain why the mascot is often recognized even when its Pokédex family is not.
