What is Pixar’s seventh feature film?

The story behind the answer

Cars is Pixar’s seventh feature film.

Pixar’s first six feature films were Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. Cars followed The Incredibles and opened in 2006, making it the studio’s seventh theatrical feature.

The film marked another step in Pixar’s expansion of computer animation into new visual worlds. Instead of human, toy, animal, or monster protagonists, Cars used anthropomorphic automobiles as its entire cast. Its environments were inspired by American highways and Route 66, while the characters’ personalities were conveyed through body shape, headlights, grilles, and sound design.

The numbering refers to Pixar’s feature-film releases, not every short film, television project, or later franchise installment. Cars 2 became Pixar’s twelfth feature film, and Cars 3 became its eighteenth, so the original’s position is a specific milestone in the studio’s release history.
