What is Kyle Broflovski's last name?

The story behind the answer

Kyle Broflovski’s last name is Broflovski. He is one of the four central boys in South Park, alongside Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick. Kyle is voiced by co-creator Matt Stone and is loosely based on him.

Kyle’s family includes his parents, Gerald and Sheila Broflovski, and his adopted younger brother, Ike. The family’s Jewish identity is an important recurring part of Kyle’s character and many storylines, especially his conflicts with Cartman’s antisemitism and his own questions about faith.

Kyle first appeared in The Spirit of Christmas shorts before South Park debuted on Comedy Central on August 13, 1997. He normally wears a green ushanka, orange jacket, and green clothing, making him easy to distinguish from Stan, who wears a blue hat and brown jacket.

A common mix-up is confusing Kyle’s surname with those of his friends: Stan is Marsh, Kenny is McCormick, and Cartman is not given a conventional family surname in the same way. Broflovski is also occasionally spelled differently in early or related material, but Broflovski is the standard canonical spelling.
