What is Green Day's Tre Cool's given name?

Green Day’s Tré Cool was given the name Frank Edwin Wright III. He was born on December 9, 1972, in Frankfurt, West Germany, and later grew up in Willits, California. His father was a helicopter pilot, and the family’s German background is one reason biographies sometimes describe him as German-American.

Wright began playing drums as a child and joined the punk band the Lookouts at age 11. His childhood nickname was “Trey,” a reference to being the third Frank Wright in his family. He later expanded it into “Tré Cool,” a playful phrase combining “très,” French for “very,” with the English word “cool.”

In 1990, Cool replaced John Kiffmeyer as Green Day’s drummer. He became a defining part of the band’s sound, contributing energetic playing to albums such as Dookie, Insomniac, and American Idiot.
