Francesco Bernoulli’s racing number in Pixar’s Cars 2 is 1.
Francesco is an Italian Formula One-style racer and Lightning McQueen’s principal rival during the World Grand Prix. His number 1 is displayed prominently on his bodywork and reflects his confidence in being the fastest competitor on the grid.
The character is voiced by John Turturro. Francesco’s design differs from Lightning’s stock-car styling because the World Grand Prix includes racers inspired by international open-wheel racing. Their rivalry is initially personal and theatrical, but both racers eventually work together when the wider threat becomes clear.
Lightning McQueen carries the number 95, a reference to the year Pixar’s Toy Story was released. That number is not Francesco’s, and it is a common source of confusion when comparing the two characters. Francesco’s single-digit number is one of his clearest visual identifiers.
