What is Ernie's favorite bathtub toy called?

Ernie’s favorite bathtub toy is called Rubber Duckie.

The yellow duck became one of Sesame Street’s most recognizable recurring objects through Ernie’s affectionate song “Rubber Duckie.” Ernie sings to the toy during bath time, treating it almost like a friend and celebrating its cheerful squeak.

The song was written by Jeff Moss, arranged by Joe Raposo, and originally performed by Jim Henson as Ernie. It first aired on Sesame Street on February 25, 1970, during the show’s first season. The performance was popular beyond the program and was released as a single.

“Rubber Duckie” reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1970 and received a 1971 Grammy nomination for Best Recording for Children. The toy is sometimes casually called a rubber duck, but within Ernie’s Sesame Street stories its affectionate name is specifically Rubber Duckie.
